Once again, “Pro-Lifers” prove best at killing

American Psycho: Operation Rescue's Terry Randall

American Psycho: Operation Rescue's Terry Randall

(CNN) — Dr. George Tiller, whose Kansas women’s clinic frequently took center stage in the U.S. debate over abortion, was shot and killed while serving as an usher at his Wichita church Sunday morning, police said. Wichita police said a 51-year-old man from the Kansas City, Kansas, area was in custody in connection with the slaying of Tiller, who was one of the few U.S. physicians who still performed late-term abortions.

The killing, which came about 16 years after Tiller survived a shooting outside his Wichita clinic, took place shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday at Reformation Lutheran Church. Officers found the 67-year-old dead in the foyer, police said.

Witnesses provided a description of the car and a license number of the killer’s getaway vehicle, Wichita police spokesman Gordon Bassham said. Police stopped a blue Ford Taurus matching the description about three hours later in Gardner, about 30 miles southwest of Kansas City, and took the driver into custody.

This f*cking scum bag denounces this attack while his own web site describes the victim as a monster and a murderer. Then when one of his followers takes the bait and kills the doctor, he feigns shock and outrage. Randall Terry is the monster and murderer. Hint, hint.–BEREZ

Crash test dummies: G. M. declares bankruptcy

Would you buy a used (or new) car from this man? Neither would anyone else.

Would you buy a used (or new) car from this man? Neither would anyone else.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — General Motors, the nation’s largest automaker and for decades an icon of American manufacturing, stood Sunday on the brink of bankruptcy and a de facto government takeover.

A bankruptcy petition will be filed on Monday at 8 a.m., according to a source with direct knowledge of the bankruptcy proceedings.

Investors who own 54% of $27 billion in GM bonds have agreed to not fight plans for a quick bankruptcy process, GM said on Sunday.

The deal with bondholders could make it easier for GM to restructure by neutralizing some of the opposition to a bankruptcy filing. But it does not wipe away the need for the company to seek court protection for making drastic reductions in dealer, labor and other costs.

Now if only we could’ve seen this coming BEFORE we gave them tens of billions in bailout money. Oh wait a minute… we did. Great.–BEREZ

REVOKED!: Credit card companies lose license to steal

What do you get the 8 year-old who has everything? A lifetime of debt.
What do you get the 8 year-old who has everything?… A lifetime of debt.

The House of Representatives passed sweeping credit card reform legislation Wednesday aimed at limiting abusive and deceptive credit card practices. The measure passed with a resounding 361-64 vote and now heads to the president’s desk.

A Republican amendment to allow guns in National Parks also passed, 279-147. House Democratic leaders had decided to split the billinto two parts so as not to force liberal members to vote in favor of the gun rule.

The overwhelming vote is a signal of how far the country’s politics have shifted as a result of the financial crisis. Despite popularity in the 90-percent range, the bill never had a chance of passing in previous years.

“I’ve been in Washington twenty years. For the first nineteen we couldn’t even get a committee vote on credit card reform despite these practices,” remarked PIRG’s Ed Mierzwinski.

Huge rate increases. Crazy late fees. When they talk about “credit card fraud” you generally don’t think that it’s been the credit card companies themselves committing the fraud. You should.–BEREZ

Scientists unveil fossilized primate; may be missing link

Grandpa?

Grandpa?

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Scientists on Tuesday unveiled the well preserved fossilized remains found in Germany of a primate from 47 million years ago that may have been a close relative of the common ancestor of monkeys, apes and people.

It is the most complete fossil primate ever found, only missing part of one leg below the knee, and could shed light on an early stage of primate evolution, the scientists said.

Norwegian paleontologist Jorn Hurum, who led a team of scientists who analyzed the fossil in the past two years, said it may resemble one of the earliest ancestors of humans but was not likely to have been a direct ancestor.

The primate, which was two feet from the tip of its nose to the end of its tail, was a female that died before its first birthday, Hurum said. It was called Darwinius masillae in honor of Charles Darwin, who advanced the theory of evolution, but nicknamed Ida.

This fossil is clearly a hoax and must have been created by special effects wizards to fool us. Everyone knows that God created the world in six days and that the earth is only 6,000 years old. Silly scientists.–BEREZ

Bristol Palin continues saying dumb things

Babies from intercourse??? Mom told me they came from the magic snowman.

Babies from intercourse??? Mom told me they came from the magical snowman.

Did it make Bristol Palin sad to have missed out on so much senior-year fun? Bristol, the eldest daughter of Alaska GOP Gov. Sarah Palin’s five children, answers with a multitasking mom’s whiff of impatience: “I have other things to worry about.”

Bristol Palin, 18, has logged more of those “other things” than some people twice her age.
“Girls need to imagine and picture their life with a screaming newborn baby and then think before they have sex,” she tells PEOPLE. “Think about the consequences.”

Her mom may be governor, but there is no nanny in the Palin house. Bristol gets up – usually twice during the night – to feed Tripp, who sleeps in a hand-me-down crib in her bedroom, and she says she has tapped out at least one school paper with her son crying in the background. She breastfed her baby for a month, pumping milk before class and rushing straight home to feed him. And she worked two part-time jobs to help pay for the diapers and formula her parents otherwise supply.

“If girls realized the consequences of sex, nobody would be having sex,” says Bristol, sitting at her parents’ lakeside patio table. “Trust me. Nobody.”

So apparently it has just occurred to the young Palin that you can get pregnant from having intercourse. This means we probably shouldn’t be nominating her mom for Secretary of Education anytime soon.–BEREZ

Right-wing talk show host “Savages” Rush Limbaugh

Savage the Humanitarian: "Rush is selfish!"

Savage the Humanitarian: "Rush is selfish!"

All is not well in the world of talk radio today, as an internecine spat is being brewed up by right-wing host Michael Savage, who today spent a portion of his airtime criticizing fellow conservative talker Rush Limbaugh. Oh noes! What has come between the two men? England, it seems! Well, according to Media Matters, here’s what Savage said:

SAVAGE: And yet here in America, I’ve had some people come to my aid. They see the bigger picture. They’re not like [Bill] O’Reilly; they’re not like Limbaugh, who’s the biggest disappointment of all. Limbaugh has turned out to be the biggest phony of all of them, all of them. Amongst all of them, he is the biggest fraud. Rush Limbaugh is a fraud. When he was accused of the drug usage, I supported him. But that man is a one-way street. It’s all about him. He’s in it for nobody but himself.

When the guy in the picture you are looking at becomes the voice of reason for your party… it might be time to start looking for an afterparty.–BEREZ

Arnold’s Terminator sequel: “Girly-Man III”

After another crushing defeat, looks like Arnold wouldn't even place at the Fitness America pageant

After another crushing ballot defeat, Arnold wouldn't even place at the Fitness America pageant

LOS ANGELES — Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger wanted to permanently fix California’s “broken budget system.” But three times now he has tried and failed to smooth out the state’s roller coaster revenues.

Voters on Tuesday resoundingly rejected his latest effort, a package of budget-balancing measures that he promised would provide a short-term patch for the current financial crisis and prevent further catastrophe in the future.

Instead, he now faces a $21.3 billion budget deficit and a budget system that has not changed a bit since he took office nearly six years ago.

“I think he’s discovered that this job is a lot harder than he anticipated in a state of economic downturn,” Treasurer Bill Lockyer said Tuesday of the governor who came into office in 2003 promising to “end the crazy deficit spending.”

The Republican governor faces another tough round of budget negotiations after months spent haggling with lawmakers to close the state’s first budget shortfall, which was initially $42 billion through June 2010.

Well it was a perfect political storm that turned Arnold into the Governator. And now with an economic tsunami threatening to blow California off the map, the only viable step remaining in Arnold’s political career might just be ambassador to Austria. Assuming they’ll take him.–BEREZ

Michael Vick released; not out of dog house yet

Vick is gonna find out that it was safer for him in protective custody.

Vick is gonna find out that it was safer for him in protective custody.

(CNN) — Former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick left a federal prison in Leavenworth, Kansas, early Wednesday, according to his publicist and the Federal Bureau of Prisons. He will serve the last two months of his 23-month sentence in home confinement in Virginia, his publicist Judy Smith said. He is a native of Newport News, Virginia.

Vick, 28, pleaded guilty in August 2007 to a federal charge of bankrolling a dogfighting operation at a home he owned in Virginia.

He will return to professional football as soon as September if reinstated by the NFL, according to the sports agent who negotiated Vick’s 10-year, $140 million contract with the Falcons. Meanwhile, Vick’s attorneys have said he will work at a Newport News construction firm following his release, and he has also agreed to participate in a documentary for $600,000.

Last month, a federal bankruptcy judge denied a Chapter 11 bankruptcy plan presented by Vick, urging him to offer the court another plan to emerge from bankruptcy.

Well Berez is a dog lover, but I am also a football lover so I am willing to acknowledge that Vick has paid his debt to society. Now he has to pay his debt to dogs so something good can come of this.–BEREZ

Manhattan Murder Mystery: Crime up 43%

With this economy, we gotta do what we gotta do. What's it to you, punk?!

With this economy, we gotta do what we gotta do. What's it to you, punk?!

Downtown Manhattan, the city’s party mecca, has been hit by an alarming spike in vicious street violence.  Assaults in Greenwich Village lead the frightening upturn, with a whopping 43 percent increase so far this year compared with the same period in 2008.

“I’ve never seen it like this before — never, ever,” said G. Simon Chafik, a female photographer who has lived in Manhattan for 15 years.

“I’m a big New Yorker. New York is one of the safest cities. [But] I’m beginning to question that.”

Other hot Manhattan neighborhoods tainted by the crime wave include TriBeCa, with a nearly 17 percent jump, and Gramercy, which has seen a 24 percent increase in assaults.

This should be nominated for least surprising story of the year. It’s the “haves” vs. the “have-nots” and it’s always beeN that way. And there’s lot of “have-nots” out there right now.–BEREZ
