W.H.O. raises flu threat level…. W.H.Y.?

The sky's falling, the economy's collapsing and terrorists are gonna kill us.

More frightening swine flu news: At an emergency meeting today, the World Health Organization upped its pandemic alert level to Phase 4 from Phase 3—the first time the level has been above 3 since the system was adopted, in 2003. The designation doesn’t make a pandemic a foregone conclusion; it signifies that a “new virus can cause sustained outbreaks and is adapting itself to spread among humans,” ABC reports. In New York City, 20 additional cases of swine flu have been confirmed at a prep school, with 117 sick kids left to be tested and 42 cases in the U.S. in total. Mayor Michael Bloomberg cautions that the health of all the students is improving: “So far, we are not seeing a situation comparable to that being reported in Mexico.” South of the border, 150 are confirmed dead, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is announcing a new travel advisory for Americans visiting Mexico.

And the ice caps are melting, and bees and fish are disappearing, etc.  This literally goes on forever.  Ya know, maybe the earth is just trying to tell us to get the f*ck off. I would–BEREZ

Climate change, flooding makes Eskimos “blubber”

Um... Yeah. This is exactly as bad as it looks.

Um... Yeah. This is exactly as bad as it looks.

(CNN) — The indigenous people of Alaska have stood firm against some of the most extreme weather conditions on Earth for thousands of years. But now, flooding blamed on climate change is forcing at least one Eskimo village to move to safer ground.
The community of the tiny coastal village of Newtok voted to relocate its 340 residents to new homes 9 miles away, up the Ninglick River. The village, home to indigenous Yup’ik Eskimos, is the first of possibly scores of threatened Alaskan communities that could be abandoned. Warming temperatures are melting coastal ice shelves and frozen sub-soils, which act as natural barriers to protect the village against summer deluges from ocean storm surges.
“We are seeing the erosion, flooding and sinking of our village right now,” said Stanley Tom, a Yup’ik Eskimo and tribal administrator for the Newtok Traditional Council.

The crisis is unique because its devastating effects creep up on communities, eating away at their infrastructure, unlike with sudden natural disasters such as wildfires, earthquakes or hurricanes.

“It’s not the heat it’s the hu…”  Umm, actually it is the heat. Caused by Global Warming. I mean when people who subsist on seal blubber and live in houses made out of ice cubes start complaining??? Time to wake up climate change haters.–BEREZ
