Three state attorneys general plan to meet with Craigslist representatives to begin negotiations toward eliminating advertisements from the site for prostitution and other suspected illegal sexual activities.

State attorneys general from Missouri, Illinois, and Connecticut will represent a group of state attorneys general in a meeting Tuesday in New York City with representatives of the Web site.Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster said his office found several ads offering and seeking prostitution on Craigslist pages for the Kansas City, St. Louis, Columbia/Jefferson City, and Springfield areas.

“Craigslist is allowing advertisements for illegal activities like prostitution on its site,” Koster said a statement. “It is blatant. It is irresponsible. It is illegal.  Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster expressed optimism toward the goal of reducing illegal activity on the site but stopped short of discussing the removal of the “erotic services” section.

Just another excuse to not solve real crime. Craigslist is no different than any other advertising medium and this kind of crackdown will just send girls back out to the streets and bars. This kind of shameless attention seeking by officials makes it obvious who the real whores are.–BEREZ

Craigslist fiance stands by man, just out of arm’s reach

So many choices: the O.J. defense? the Blake defense? The Spector defense?

So many choices: the O.J. defense? the Blake defense? The Spector defense?

The wedding is still on. The fiancee of accused Craigslist killer Philip Markoff insists she’s standing by her man, and friends say the nuptials haven’t been canceled. “Philip did not commit this crime,” Megan McAllister told People magazine. “Unfortunately, somebody else did and needs to be penalized. “Philip was set up,” said McAllister, whose beau, a fellow med student, was placed on suicide watch in a Boston jail yesterday.

Her dad, Jim, told reporters: “She’s still confident in Phil. Other than that, we’re saying a lot of prayers.”

This poor girl. What a f*cking kick in the face. But hey, look at the bright side, at least it wasn’t a bullet in the head. Better she found out now and not after she got stuffed in a garbage bag and dumped in a lake. Life can be very cruel. You’re young. Suck it up and move on.–BEREZ

M4M: Craigslist CEO takes it “Personal”

Berez, my friends call me Jim Fuc*master...

SWM: loves making money, long walks on the beach

Craigslist chief executive Jim Buckmaster told a CNN cable TV news program this morning that the company feels terribly that an accused killer in Boston allegedly used the online service to target his victims.

“We feel terribly, and it’s quite sad that anyone would lose their life,” Buckmaster told CNN. “And we’re horrified that use of Craigslist could in any way be connected with a violent crime of this nature. It just causes us to redouble our efforts to try to get across to users to take a few common sense precautions that eliminate most of the risks.

A story in this morning’s Globe noted that Craigslist, an online bulletin board where many classified ads are posted, has its critics as the service pursues a dual role of promoting sex trade advertising and assisting police helps solve crimes linked to erotic ads on the site. -Boston.com

The fact that they are blaming Craigslist is a joke. The real criminals are the ones keeping prostitution illegal and forcing it into the shadows where sh*t like this happens -BEREZ
