Here we go again…the vaccine for this one didn’t work, and neither did this PSA
GENEVA — The World Health Organization told its member nations it was declaring a swine flu pandemic Thursday _ the first global flu epidemic in 41 years _ as infections climbed in the United States, Europe, Australia, South America and elsewhere. In a statement sent to member countries, WHO said it decided to raise the pandemic warning level from phase 5 to 6 _ its highest alert _ after holding an emergency meeting on swine flu with its experts. The long-awaited pandemic decision is scientific confirmation that a new flu virus has emerged and is quickly circling the globe. It will trigger drug makers to speed up production of a swine flu vaccine and prompt governments to devote more money toward efforts to contain the virus. “At this early stage, the pandemic can be characterized globally as being moderate in severity,” WHO said in the statement, urging nations not to close borders or restrict travel and trade. “(We) remain in close dialogue with influenza vaccine manufacturers. On Wednesday, WHO said 74 countries had reported nearly 27,737 cases of swine flu, including 141 deaths.

Never eat a pig, cause a pig is a cop or better yet a terminator like … You know the rest. Don’t get played like sega, 141 people die out of 6 billion and we have a pandemic and need a vaccine? If it’s anything like the vaccine from the 1970’s, I’ll pass. - BEREZ

Last week Jon Stewart took on Fox News for their coverage of Obama’s speech in Cairo calling their personalities “extremists” and saying, “What a torture it must be for such pretty people to see such ugly things.”
Last night, Stewart continued to pound the cable network for biased insinuations, and showed a clip of Hannity editing Obama’s words to unjustly make him sound like a 9/11 apologist. This practice, as our own Jason Linkins has pointed out, is not unique to Hannity, but endemic to Fox as a whole.
To keep things fair, Stewart also looked at the other big two cable networks: MSNBC and CNN. He mocked the former for mentioning Rush Limbaugh at every turn, and CNN for being desperate to win the social networking wars. (Note: That might not actually be a thing.) - Courtesy of Current.com
Fox New’s biased? But it says in plain text “Fair and Balanced.” How about using the internet and researching information yourself? Strictly watching, reading, or listening to media outlets that are all owned by the same handful of corporations is like watching a dog chase it’s tail, it’s funny for a minute and then you realize it’s a pointless. - BEREZ

De ja vu?
It’s ok Carrie it’s not the end, it’s actually the beginning of a long successful political career. One day you may even be governor of California! I mean that will probably be the same day that Santa and Jesus have a battle to the death over who deserves the rights to Christmas, which in your case is pretty optimistic. - Berez

So my man Barack has received opposition from rich politicians and a corporation??? For eight years, Jessica Terry suffered from stomach pain so horrible, it brought her to her knees. The pain, along with diarrhea, vomiting and fever, made her so sick, she lost weight and often had to miss school. Her doctors, no matter how hard they tried, couldn’t figure out the cause of Jessica’s abdominal distress. Then one day in January, Terry, 18, figured it out on her own. In her Advanced Placement high school science class, she was looking under the microscope at slides of her own intestinal tissue — slides her pathologist had said were completely normal — and spotted an area of inflamed tissue called a granuloma, a clear indication that she had Crohn’s disease. She was pretty excited about finding the granuloma,” Welch said. “She said, ‘Ms. Welch! Ms. Welch! Come over here. I think I’ve got something!’ ” Welch, who has taught the Biomedical Problems class at Eastside for 17 years, immediately went on the Internet to see whether Terry had indeed spotted a granuloma. “I said, ‘Jeez, it certainly looks like one to me,’ ” Welch remembered. “I snapped a picture of it on the microscope and e-mailed it to the pathologist. Within 24 hours, he sent back an e-mail saying yes, this is a granuloma. - CNN.com
For eight years doctors missed this and the girl found it while doing homework? Really boosts my confidence in the medical field. Hey Jessica do you take health insurance? On second thought I can’t afford it, how about a date to the prom? -BEREZ

Oh why did I throw that necklace overboard?! It could've paid for my health insurance!
(CNN) — Millvina Dean, believed to be the last survivor of the Titanic, has died at 97, her friends confirmed Sunday. Dean was just an infant when the RMS Titanic — publicized as “practically unsinkable” and the largest passenger steamship at the time — struck an iceberg on the night of April 14, 1912, during its maiden voyage from Southampton in southern England to New York. The ship sank less than three hours later, killing more than 1,500 people.
Brian Ticehurst, a friend of Dean, said she died at 8 a.m. Sunday.
Dean was hospitalized a few days ago for medical complications before returning to the Woodlands Ridge Nursing Home in Southampton, said Charles Haas, a friend and president of the Titanic International Society based in New Jersey.
